Mies van der Rohe once stated, "It is almost easier to build a skyscraper than a chair". Following that logic, if must take two skyscrapers worth of work to create one Barcelona Sofa, as it more than doubles the size of Mies' famous Barcelona chair. Like those legendary seats that first graced the German Pavilion at the 1929 World's Fair in Barcelona, the Barcelona Sofa is based on the classic design of scissor-like collapsible stools used by Roman and Egyptian rulers.
